Napoleon Debate

The Napoleon debate went a little differently then I would have expected. It was interesting when Sonya and Christine brought up what were the goals of the revolution. As well those opposed to Napoleon, mentioned all the negative things like how people were afraid to leave their houses and Napoleon’s strict police force. In my group, the pro Napoleon group, Aidan did a terrific job brining up all the interesting and important triumphs of Napoleon. These included his success in Italy and his ability to create peace for France. As well my team brought up the key points about how Napoleon saved the French economy and had a constitution, which most people approved. On the other side of the debate, the con team mentioned how he severely minimized women’s rights, which was a step backwards in the revolution. This point was started and argued very well by Adriana.  Coming back to the pro side, Savannah argued very well in the defense of Napoleon saying that the revolution died when he was kicked out of France leaving a king in charge. This was our key argument because Napoleon was the only person who kept the revolution alive and he saved France. After his ousting, France was put back into a monarchy placing them at the same state they were before the revolution began. Overall both sides of the debate had some very good key points. The overall debate was very interesting and really helped my understanding of the Napoleonic age.
