Holocaust

The Holocaust is one of the most terrible things to happen in history. It killed millions of people: Jews, disabled, homosexuals, and gypsies. One of the videos I watched was the video about Kristallnacht, the night of broken glass. This happened in 1938 and his was the start of the Holocaust. One thousand five hundred fifty synagogues were either destroyed or burned and two thousand five hundred jews were murdered or committed suicide from the grief of it all. While this destruction was happening, the Germans and Austrians just watched and didn't do anything for these people who could've possibly been there neighbors. This was like participating in this act and Nazi's took over and forced the Jews into concentration camps. The second video I watched was about the Buchenwald Nazi Concentration Camp liberation. When the americans had arrived to the concentration camp that one thousand boys under the age of fourteen were apart of the twenty thousand that were still alive at the camp. The survivors that were there were only males. Before the U.S. troops arrived and the Nazi's still had control, the death rate was two hundred people a day. The concentration camp consisted of people from all nationalities. The people in the concentrations camps had little living space and all types of diseases spread rapidly. The German scientists that worked with the Nazi’s would experiment on the the concentration camp prisoners and rarely anybody made it out of the experiments alive. I also viewed the picture of the locations of the concentration camps and death camps. In the picture I could see that there were more concentration camps than death camps. But in my opinion they are all pretty much the same because all of those camps lead to death. The death camps were on more of the eastern side of Germany while the concentration camps took up mid-Germany and west Germany. Concentration camps were established outside of Germany as well. In the picture nineteen concentration camps and death camps were shown. It’s hard to believe why anybody would ever have the mind to just murder so many people. Seeing these visuals, especially the video on the Buchenwald Concentration Camp, showed me how gruesome everything was. Seeing the actual pictures had so much more of an impact on me.
