My first resource was the 8 stages of Genocide. I feel like
it’s horrible that people can be dehumanized through propaganda so far as that
the people think that it is acceptable to exterminate a race of people. The
fact that all it takes to get an entire group of people hated is some bad
press, and some discrimination is horrible. Then the people themselves will
begin to hate also. But in my opinion the last step is the worst, denial, and
the fact that they would deny the fact that they exterminated a race of people
and not feel any remorse is awful. My second resource was the map with
locations of all of the death camps and concentration camps in Germany. There
were 13 concentration camps and 6 death camps.
All of the death camps were located on the eastern side of Germany,
while the majority of concentration camps were at located on the western side.
Which means that they made people march across Germany to their ultimate
death. My third resource was the
timeline of events by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Hitler and
his new regime spread racial policies to completely control the public and
private life of peoples that he referred to as “dangerous”. Once he invaded Poland
he moved all of the non-Aryan people into concentration camps and ghettos
without a real resistance. Near the end of the war, Germany sent a final push
towards their “final solution” and started killing even more people in their
death camps. It’s horrible to even think about the fact that their was an
organized system that sent people to their death.
I agree with you that it’s crazy to think that through some propaganda, people start hating a race. I understand that they wanted to change their economic problems but exterminating a whole race is a bit much. The German people were in such a bad place economically that they believed whatever was in the press/ whatever Hitler told them, and that happened to be propaganda against the Jews. Also the fact that they denied that they murdered so many people does make this situation worse than it already is. Some people don’t even believe the Holocaust even happened and that is just terrible. The third resource you had fits in with one of the resources I watched. Like you said when Hitler was making his final push, he made the death rate at the concentration camps higher than it was before. At Buchenwald, the final death rate was two hundred people per day.
